i am turning into a housewife.
ok, this was already starting last year, but i swear it's getting worse. i had so much rather look up yummy things to bake and cook; or sit around listening to something whilst i do my mending; or even clean the kitchen or do laundry, than actually do my homework. and as i do my reading for british history about women in the early-modern period making their clothes and gleaning after harvest and keeping poultry, those things sound so much better than poring over massive tomes on the history of things.
much of this, i assume - and hope - is just the grass is always greener on the other side syndrome. but even still, i keep polishing away at my castle in the clouds of living on a farm with a big cobbled-together post-modern family, a couple of goats, some chickens, and an orchard. and i keep appending things from places i've been or things i've read to various versions of the dream. the most recent variation is that one or more of the cabins around the edges of the big house could function as a bed-and-breakfast and i could make muffins for guests to my heart's content.
so two questions: what on earth is wrong with me?
and does anyone want to live on a small rambly farm just outside a middleburyish-sized town with me?

Yes! Thank god, I thought it was just me. Here I am studying my ass off to get into grad school with all these plans to become a super-specialized doctor, but these little nagging pictures of living on a little farm just outside of Assisi (my new favorite) with a vegetable garden and some fruit trees, a couple of chickens and some sheep for my australian shepherds to heard around and a huge Sunday dinner every week with all my family and friends (who would, I guess theoretically be in Assisi too). Well, either neither of us or both of us are crazy.
ReplyDeletei love it! i'm more of a settle down with a nice hockey player and be the perfect housewife, mom, etc. sort but i honestly spend large amounts of my free time on recipes.com researching and saving recipes which i then make for john and ben...and i'm pretty sure central m is my favorite place to shop (and you know how i feel about clothes so that's saying something :D)...i feel more accomplished after successfully cleaning my apartment than i've ever felt after writing a paper or doing anything intellectually praiseworthy...
ReplyDeletepoint is, i applaud the domesticity and think we should become super old and share recipes, cleaning tips, and the like...
